A "Clean Slate" for Thai Visa Rules?

Transcript of the above video:

As the title of this video suggests, we are discussing Thai visa rules. I had a question, actually it came from a friend who said, "Why don't they just have a clean slate? Why don't they just use this COVID-19 response as a way to do just a reorientation or reorganization of the Thai Visa rules, the Thai Immigration rules?"

One, it is not as easily done as that because the rules pertaining to Thai Immigration are fundamentally regulatory driven and those regulations are derived from the Thai Immigration Act of '79. So presumably to have a full overhaul, much like comprehensive Immigration reform in the United States, in Thailand you would need to see Parliament pass a new Immigration Act. I don't suspect, at least as of the time of this video, that is a major priority for Parliament and in fact I suspect they probably think it is working fine as is.

That stated what about the regulations? Could we seem them streamline things? Yeah, I guess in theory but the notion of a clean slate, a sort of reset if you will with respect to Thai Immigration, I think that is pretty far-fetched. In fact I think it is probably, yes I do think that things in the post-COVID response area will look substantially dissimilar, in some ways similar but I think in many ways substantially dissimilar, to what they looked like prior to the COVID response but I don't think we are going to see things just be fundamentally reorganized in the upcoming months and years.
