Can I Have a Retirement Visa in Thailand If I'm Not Retired?

Transcript of the above video:

As the title of this video suggests, we are discussing can I have a Retirement Visa in Thailand if I'm not retired? What are we talking about here? Well I deal with a lot of folks especially that work in offshore oil and gas that come to Thailand periodically. They like to maintain a Retirement Visa, it's just kind of smoother when processing in through Immigration. Oftentimes folks will ask, "Well I am not really retired." Well the response to that is "okay, you may be doing things outside of Thailand but when you are in Thailand, what are you doing?" The answer is pretty much being retired, pretty much just off; call it R&R call it whatever you want, you are definitely not working in Thailand.

Now again let's be clear, standard Retirement Visas here in Thailand do not have work authorization so you can't work on a Thai Retirement Visa in Thailand. That doesn't mean, Thailand doesn't have jurisdiction over some oil rig in the middle of the North Sea or something so yeah it may seem a little bit counterintuitive but at the end of the day, no, you cannot work in Thailand on a Retirement Visa but if you are doing something outside of Thailand that's fine. Thai Authorities don't even consider it really relevant I don't think and pretty much your activities in Thailand encompass what one would describe as the activities of a retiree.
