Can I Get a 45 Day Extension of a 45 Day Visa Exemption Stamp?

Transcript of the above video:

As the title of this video suggests, we are discussing Visa Exemptions and we are discussing extension of Exemption. So sorry for getting overly technical here but what are we talking about?

Okay, up until October 1 if you were coming into Thailand and there was this kind of interim period, we had gotten rid of most the COVID restrictions, then we were kind of in status quo ante, now they have done a few things to kind of spur tourism. One of the big ones is this 45-day stamp as opposed to a 30-day stamp. Now that is temporary as we have discussed in other videos; it has been announced as temporary at least. Presumably it is going to revert back to 30 in March. Now a question that a lot of people keep asking is "Well if I want to extend my stay in Thailand, do I get another 45 days when I extend? How does that work?" Well I thought of making this video quite a little while ago and then I was reading this article from the Pattaya Mail, pattayamail.com, the article is titled: Thai Visa Runs to Laos: latest updates. Quoting directly: "Most foreigners wanting a longer holiday in Thailand are opting at the Cambodian border for a new 45 day visa exempt stamp with the option to extend for a further month." so end quote. Again, those who are watching this video maybe go check out that article, a lot of information in there. I'm quoting a small excerpt. So what are we talking about here? Okay that quote would seem to reflect the reality on the ground at present that we have seen and talked to Immigration Officials about which is okay you get 45 days when you come in. They never changed the rule with respect to the extension, so the extension remains 30 days. So you get 45 at entry. If you want to extend status, you get another 30 taking you out to 75 total. That is what we have been told right now at Thai Immigration and that apparently is the way it is. It is 75 days total on one entry, if you do it right. You have to extend status, so you get 45, you extend by 30, now you are at 75. So a little bit of a weird way to do it or maybe seemingly a weird way to do it. Again, remember this has been brought in as a temporary sort of expedient to try and help the Tourism Industry so they haven't really changed the laws, they just did stuff under the Emergency Decree basically and were able to get this thing going. So that is basically where we are at right now.

It will be interesting to see come March what they do with this 45-day stamp. Will it revert it to 30 days, will it stay 45, hard to say. We will certainly keep you updated on this channel as things progress.
