As the title of this video suggests, we are discussing well the possibility of a Thai Digital Work Permit. Now what are we talking about here? 

Well about a year or, well what is it now? About 3 years going back, they brought online under certain circumstances, the ability to do your Work Permit in an online system. Primarily this was happening through the BOI but I have had people ask me off and on since then, "Can we do it online now?" It depends. It honestly depends on your circumstances. For example, if you are using Smart Visa under certain circumstances there may be an online system to deal with. This LTR remains to be seen, the so-called Long-Term term Residence Visa with work authorization. But yes, there are certain BOI concession companies, companies that have been given concession under the BOI to operate, that do utilize a Digital Work Permit system and it's my understanding it's pretty nice, it's pretty efficient. SMEs, just sort of your standard Thai small company, generally speaking it has been our experience, no you are going to have to deal with that on paper. There are ups and downsides to that. My personal opinion, I prefer paper for a lot of different reasons most notably at the end of the day you can point at something, whereas sort of in the ether of the internet, things can kind of go down the memory hole if you will and it just kind of makes me uneasy. That said, one man's opinion.

In short, the answer for now is under certain circumstances it may be possible to have a Digital Work Permit but under most circumstances especially involving SMEs here in Thailand, no you are going to have to deal with a standard Thai Work Permit.
