Border Run Issues for Those with a Thai Visa on Arrival
Transcript of the above video:
As the title of this video suggests, we are discussing Border Runs. We are discussing it in the context of those who arrived in Thailand in visa-on-arrival status. So what are we talking about here? Well exactly that, and people use these terms interchangeably and you really need to understand the difference here. There is what is called a Visa Exemption Stamp. A Visa Exemption is, prior to October 1 of 2022, a visa exemption stamp certain nationals from certain countries could arrive in Thailand on a passport and just be granted 30 days of status. They didn't have a Visa but they weren't out of status either; they had 30 days of exemption from a Visa but they were lawfully present in Thailand. That is a Visa Exemption Stamp. Now visa-on-arrival, there are people from certain nationalities that can get on a plane without a Visa, travel to Thailand and then upon arrival there is a desk, it is the Visa-on-Arrival desk near Thai Immigration in the airport where they will go and then they will fill out some forms and get an actual Visa but it is a Visa issued on arrival.
So we are talking about Border Runs for those with a visa-on-arrival. Those who have arrived in Thailand VOA, or visa-on-arrival and they may want to undertake a Border Run. I thought of making this video after reading a recent article in the Pattaya Mail, that's pattayamail.com, the article is titled: Pattaya Visa runs Cambodian border now "much easier". I urge those who are watching this video, a lot of information in there, I urge you to check out that article, good info. I'm going to quote a small excerpt here. Quote: "Foreigners entering with 15 days visa on arrival (30 days from October 1)" so visa on arrival status has increased from 15 days they are granted on arrival up to 30 days now beginning on October 1; that is news in and of itself. Quoting further: "mostly Indians and Chinese nationals - cannot be processed through the Cambodian Visa Run route."
So yeah, visa on arrival folks, if you came into Thailand and this is any nationality, I am not pointing anybody out but anybody that came into Thailand on a visa-on-arrival, you cannot use Visa "border runs" in order to maintain status in Thailand. You are not going to be able to run out to the Cambodian Border, Laos Border, Myanmar Border, Malaysia Border, wherever, you are not going to be able to just run across the border and run back. It is not going to be possible if you arrived in Thailand and gained your status via visa-on-arrival.
