As the title of this video suggests, we are discussing "Big Joke" yet again. That is General Surachate Hakparn. For those who are unaware, we have been following "Big Joke" for some time now going all the way back to when he first came into Immigration, then left Immigration, kind of had an interesting career path, ended up back in Thai National Police Headquarters and now apparently is having a pretty substantial impact on the Immigration System itself.

I thought of making this video after reading a recent article from Thai PBS World that's thaipbsworld.com, the article is titled: 80 Immigration Police face charges for accepting money to extend visas for Chinese businessmen. Quoting directly: "About 80 Immigration Police Officers, including three Generals face disciplinary and criminal charges for allegedly extending visas for Chinese nationals involved in "grey" businesses in Thailand for in exchange for financial gain, according to Pol Gen Surachate Hakparn, the Deputy National Police Chief."

So yeah, although noted in the article it seems to be directed at certain elements of I guess you can call it the Chinese underworld here in Thailand, who is to say that this won't have wider ramifications within Immigration as a whole? As we have seen in the past, if and when “Big Joke” gets involved in Immigration matters, it can have pretty fundamental ramifications for a lot of different types of Visa holders here in the Kingdom most notably because, I remember when we had a situation where there were substantial backlogs because of changes to policy within Immigration. Will that happen here? It remains to be seen. I am kind of doubtful that it will because in the past General Surachate was generally within Immigration so this is one of those deals where it is sort of him outside of it having an impact on it on the inside but in the past he was actually inside the apparatus. I don't think we are going to see quite so many major changes as we saw some years back but that remains to be seen so we will certainly keep you updated on this channel as things progress.
