As the title of this video suggests, we are discussing Big Joke. For those who are unaware, we are talking about Police General Surachate "Big Joke" Hakparn who is now I believe the Deputy National Police Chief. For those who are unaware, we gave got a lot of history kind of following Big Joke, or Police General Surachate's career if you will, trajectory. He first came on my scope when we were looking at things involving Immigration some years ago and he became the head of Thai Immigration and made a major, well there were a lot of changes, there were significant changes, there were a lot of shake-ups within Thai Immigration. Things like TM30 came to the forefront, issues surrounding financials for the Retirement Visas also came to the foreground; these were major concerns. We kind of had an interlude from this for the last few years but now it appears that a lot, we talked recently about major changes within Thai Immigration and it looks like Big Joke is sort of at the centre of this whole thing.

I thought about making this video after reading a recent article from the Bangkok Post, that is bangkokpost.com, the article is titled: 'Big Joke' faces down critics. Quoting directly: "Deputy National Police Chief, Pol Gen Surachate Hakparn, has vowed to stamp out graft rocking the Immigration Bureau and bring any corrupt officers to Justice." You can go into this article and read it further. I am just going to quote that small excerpt. We urge those who are watching this video go read that for yourself, a lot of information in there, but the gist of it is that yeah it looks like Big Joke is sort of the impetus if you will behind a lot of these new, a lot of this crackdown within Immigration. 

As I said in a prior video I think this has rather ominous portents to it. It is something that I think in the future is going to be substantial as we go through 2023. For now, it looks to me as though it basically pertains to, it is an internal shake up if you will, but these things have ramifications in a broader sense and anything dealing with Immigration when you see, as they say in that article, there are over a hundred officers implicated in this whole thing and that is going to have tremendous ramifications. I have never even heard of something like this quite honestly. In my experience I definitely haven't seen anything in the time I have been doing this over the past 15 years. Meanwhile, it is something I haven't even really heard of. So in short, these are major changes. It is something to keep a close eye on. We will certainly keep you updated on this channel as the situation evolves.
