Are There 100,000 Tourists Still "Stuck" in Thailand?

Transcript of the above video:

As the title of this video suggests, we are discussing the possibility of 100,000 tourists stuck in Thailand. A recent article from the Pattaya Mail that is pattayamail.com, the article is titled: "COVID" Visa Extension Applications Approved Until July 29th. There was something in here that really didn't have anything to do with that but I just thought was interesting. "Thai Immigration has announced that foreigners who are "stuck" in Thailand will be able to obtain new 60 day visas under the special pandemic rules." Quoting further: "It is not known how many foreigners are dependent on the COVID extensions rather than other Visa types but the generally accepted figure is around 100,000." That may be true. I don't know, when I saw that, that seemed high but maybe that is the case; there are 100,000 people "stuck" in Thailand.

Quoting further: "They include tourists who cannot return home because of the strict entry rules or lack of flights to a particular destination; those who don't want to go back because of high infection rates and finally independent travelers who are enjoying life here." Yeah, one thing to note and we have actually seen this happen, or I should say we have seen the results of this when people go in to deal with this on their own. These COVID extensions, it is not a foregone conclusion you are necessarily going to get one. They are at the discretion of Immigration Officers and we have seen folks that have had issues who are trying to get one of these that were not part of the shutdown, the lockdown back in March of 2020. Folks that subsequently came to Thailand and are now trying to avail themselves of this discretionary Visa, we have seen situations where folks have said "Yeah, no we are not going to do that. You don't fall under this discretionary offering." Now yeah every one of those cases, those folks other solutions were found but understand it is not a foregone conclusion you can get one of these and it really is not supposed to and probably I should say it might not depending on your circumstances apply to someone who came in subsequent to March of 2020.
