Are Thai Multi-Entry Business Visas Going to Come Back?
Transcript of the above video:
As the title of this video suggests, we are discussing Thai Multi-Entry Business Visas. For those who are unaware, there was a time not in the relatively recent past, but there was a time when it was possible to get what was called a one-year Multi-Entry B Visa or Business Visa for Thailand that would allow someone to come into Thailand, it's kind of an interesting Visa insofar as when you entered, it did not give you one year of status, it gave you 90 days of status. Then you had to jump out of the country and then come back in to get the next 90 days. You could do that over the course of a year for a total of 360, 365 days. In point of fact, if you used it correctly there was kind of a bonus 90 days at the end that you could get, so it kind of resulted in essentially like 15 months’ worth of lawful status here in Thailand.
I have had a lot of questions from folks that kind of reminisce, or are nostalgic for the old Thai Visa. I have got to say that the Thai Multi-Entry B, there was a time in the documentation associated with application and approval was pretty darn, for those who watch this channel a lot, I don't use the word "easy" very often but it was pretty darned easy. The Multi-Entry B there was a time, the first 5, 7 years I was living here, working here, we would assist folks with a Multi-Entry Thai B Visa quite frequently and we found a lot of people really liked it. Now COVID popped up and then it became essentially impossible to do Visa Runs, Border Runs and run out of the country and come back in, so they effectively fell by the wayside. The vast majority of folks that we deal with are dealing with an extension. That is an improvement by the way. In my opinion, it is better to be in extension status in the long term for a bunch of different reasons most notably if you are marking time for possible Permanent Residence or citizenship down the road but there's a lot of different reasons. It's just once you're in Business Visa extension status I think it's a good idea to just stay there.
That being said, is it possible that we will see anytime soon? My opinion is I think they will be very much a rarity in sort of the post-Covid Thai Visa universe. They might be around, you might occasionally see one, but I think they are only going to be issued under very rare circumstances to people that meet a unique set of criteria. I just don't think it's going to be something that is going to be issued with any regularity, especially any regularity compared to years past. As we discussed in other videos, years ago Honorary Consulates used to issue these with a great deal of frequency, well they have been all but shut down. Honorary Consulates don't issue visas anymore in any meaningful way that I am aware of unless there has been some change in the last couple weeks that I am not aware of and I will look into that actually now that I am thinking about it. But long story short, yeah Multi-Entry B visas, I think it is pretty safe to say that by and large they are truly a thing of the past.
