Are Thai Business Visas Eligible For "E-Extension"?
Transcript of the above video:
As you can see, that is a slightly different format. I am doing these sitting down; I do not prefer to do that, I usually like to do these standing up. Unfortunately folks I have the flu and I tried to do some videos like this, if you noticed I was just pouring sweat and really I was unable to finish a few of them because I was just unable to stand that long. But long story short, I want to get the information out there, the show must go on sort of thing so I am going to sort of push ahead.
In any event, as the title of this video suggests, we are discussing whether or not Business Visas are going to be eligible for this new sort of E-Extension that they are talking about, so let's get into this. I thought of making this video after reading a recent article from the Phuket News, that is thephuketnews.com, the article is titled: Foreigners in Phuket can now apply for 'Visa extensions' online. "Foreigners in Phuket staying in Thailand on one of any 12 types of visas will be allowed to apply for extensions to stay via an online portal, Pol Lt Gen Itthiphon Itthisanronnachai, Commissioner of the Immigration Bureau, announced in Phuket yesterday (December 25). However Phuket immigration has yet to announce any details the extension service available for foreigners in Phuket or post a notice announcing the new service on the Phuket Immigration official website."
Meanwhile it goes on to say: "13 categories of foreigners who can apply online to extend their stay, as follows:
- Carry out duties for the Government;
- Tourism;
- Teacher;
- Study in government;
- Teacher practice;
- Performing duties;
- Skilled laborer;
- Installation or repair of machines, aircrafts, ocean vessels;
- Family member of Thai residence (non-immigrant) - that is not a Thai, that is like a derivative visa for somebody that is like the family member of one of the other types of visas that may be eligible under this scheme, and then they go on:
- Used to have Thai nationality;
- Necessity case;
- Training case;
- Person in charge of conveyance or crew of conveyance - that is like shipping.
Who is it not talking about here? It's not talking about Business Visas. Standard Business Visa applications are quite cumbersome. We do them frequently and some of them are the size of a phone book. So I doubt we are going to see anything in terms of an online portal for Business Visa processing any time in the near future, if ever. In fact I suspect they will probably want to keep you the adjudication function of that on an in-person basis for a variety of different reasons most notably fraud prevention, I could see that if for no other reason than that.
So the thing to take away from this video is at this time, Business Visa processing remains as it always has been; it does not have an online component.
