Are O Marriage Visas Eligible For Online Extension?

Transcript of the above video:

As you can see, the background is very different from literally every video I have ever done on this channel and the reason for that is unfortunately I have the flu and I'm unable to do these videos in the way that I usually do them. If you bear with me I would appreciate it very much. I do want to keep getting the information out there though so I wanted to go ahead and keep making these videos and hopefully next week, if you bear with me I will be back to normal operation as it were.

As the title suggests, we are discussing whether or not this newly promulgated online extension portal from Thai Immigration will accommodate those who are holding a Thai O Marriage Visa. I thought of making this video after reading a recent article in the Phuket News, that is thephuketnews.com, the article is titled: Foreigners in Phuket can now apply for 'visa extensions' online.

Quoting further: "Foreigners in Phuket staying in Thailand on one of any 12 types of visas will be allowed to apply for extensions to stay via an online portal, Pol Lt Gen Itthiphon Itthisanronnachai, Commissioner of the Immigration Bureau announced in Phuket yesterday." Quoting further: "However, Phuket Immigration has yet to announce any details of the 'E-Extension' service available for foreigners in Phuket, or post a notice announcing the new service on the Phuket Immigration official website."

Quoting further though and this I think is the key point: "13 categories of foreigners who can apply online to extend their stay, as follows:

  • Carry out duties for the government;
  • Tourism;
  • Teacher, Professor or expert in government education institutions;
  • Study in government education institution;
  • Teaching practice;
  • Performing duties in the mass media; skilled labour, medical expert or practitioner of other professions;
  • Installation or repair of machines;
  • Family member of a Thai Residence – now non-immigrant, what they are saying, and they go on: only for family member of a foreigner not Thai nationality who has residence certificate and alien registration certificate of the alien granted residence permit in Thailand. So we are talking either the derivative of another one of the Visa categories, so somebody who's extending and has a spouse under one of the other categories, or it looks like possibly the family member of someone who holds Thai Permanent Residence but to be clear not the family members of Thai Nationals which that is who O Marriage Visas pertain to.

Then they go on:

  • Used to have Thai nationality;
  • Necessity case;
  • Training case;
  • Person in charge of conveyance - that is like shipping."

So the thing to take away from this video yes there are going to be a number of benefits especially it looks to me like tourists - a lot of these other categories are very obscure, there's very few visas issued in some of them. Some of them are so discreet I don't even think I have ever seen a visa issued in some of those categories. Long story short, and the thing to take away from this video is no, spouse visas, O Marriage Visas, Thai O Marriage Visas are not covered under this 'E-Extension' scheme.
