Tax Issues, Wills, and Estate Planning in Thailand?

Transcript of the above video:

There is a lot of talk swirling around the ether of the internet right now, especially here in Thailand regarding tax issues. Frankly, I think this forthcoming quarter will shake a lot of this out. I think you're going to see as this quarter progresses who the charlatans are because quite frankly in a vast majority of cases, they are telling people things that are not in their best interest, but we'll have to see that play out as it goes. There's a great line from the poem If by Rudyard Kipling where he says, "If you can see the words you've spoken, twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools", that is pretty spot on with how I feel about the current tax "planning" professionals currently so-called operating here in Thailand. If they are foreigners as discussed in prior videos, they are operating illegally in full violation of the restricted occupations here in Thailand which specifically states foreigners cannot be providing tax consultations regarding Thai matters, that's just a fact. I've read that out many, many times.

That being said we're talking about Estate planning and Will drafting and what are we talking about with regard to this? Well, there could be tax implications in the event that you leave an estate here in Thailand. Estate planning can be an effective way of mitigating any possible tax fallout in the event of one's passing. Now drafting a Will is of course very important but for example, this is just one example of tax planning with regard to estate planning, there may be benefits for example to gifting things to a Thai spouse before one passes away, especially depending on the overall size of a possible estate.

So, these are things to keep in mind with both drafting a Will, also estate planning generally here in Thailand, and also kind of when having at the back of one's mind issues pertaining to tax liability here in the Kingdom of Thailand.
