Digital House Books in Thailand?

Transcript of the above video:

As the title of this video suggests, we are discussing so-called Digital House Books in Thailand. For those who are unaware, there is a system I should say sort of a yeah it is a system, it is called the house registration system, House Books. So any Thai National has to be in what is called a Tabien Baan, House Registration book. In the past, these have always been on paper and for the record, foreign nationals may also be able to have what is called a Yellow Tabien Baan. The standard Tabien Baan is a blue document; the Yellow Tabien Baan is for foreign nationals, they may be able to be registered in a house book.

But some recent news I thought was interesting this is from the Nation, that is nationthailand.com, the article is titled: New Digital House Registration Service to launch next month. Quoting directly: "Digital house registration will allow the public to register their properties online via mobile phones. Users must download the D.DOPA application and register at District Offices. The following services will be available in the first phase:

  • Verification of personal information via database and public services
  • Reserving place in queue
  • Changing address

Quoting further: "The services will be free for the first year. Other civil registration services will be covered later."

Interestingly enough and what is not noted in there is actually getting into a house book. So you do have to present yourself in person in order to be registered in a house book and there is a lot of documentation associated with that but it is good to see that overall the Government is moving in a digital direction with respect to certain aspects of the bureaucracy in Thailand. Exactly how this pans out remains to be seen.
