Thailand Tax News and Introducing Integrity News Service?
Transcript of the above video:
As the title of this video suggests, we are discussing well tax news. This video is going to be a bit of a different format than what we usually do. I'm going to have another video come out on this same day; this should go up on Saturday, Saturday May 31st; sorry looking over at our calendar over there. So this should go up Saturday, May 31st at 7:45 am and I am going to have another substantive video coming up at 11:45 am so be prepared for that for those who are watching. But we are talking generally about tax here and I wanted to at the same time introduce a new service we are going to be providing at Integrity here; it's going to be our new news service. I have been toying with the notion of doing something different and one thing that I have noticed is there is sort of an underwhelming nature to some of the information we put out and there is sort of an overwhelming nature to some of the information we put out over the years here's on this channel and we see it in the comments and things. Sometimes when people say, "oh this is just a big promotion for you". Well yeah, that's how this started; I mean that's why I have always done this and bear in mind this channel has never been monetized. It continues to not be monetized, so yes, the promotional element comes along with information that we put out there.
That said and I think it's pretty safe to say moving forward, especially with regard to Immigration and Tax which are two bodies of law that are both narrow and deep insofar as they are narrow in the fact that they - it is not like criminal law where it applies to everybody - Tax and Immigration are narrow. They pertain to a narrow subset if you will of legal situations that people can find themselves in but it's very deep. If you don't have at least way better than a layman's understanding, and even from a professional standpoint, if you don't have better than just a superficial understanding of how this stuff works, you can really find yourself in problems because it's very nuanced, okay.
The point I am trying to make is we are setting up a new news service. It's going to be a private news service. The way I initially intend for this to work is we are going to do this by email. Now I want to be clear, this is not legal service, this is like a news service pertaining to the law and tax issues and news. It's also going to pertain, I like to talk about economics a lot especially international economics and financial news, it's going to pertain to that as well. So, think of it as something akin to a hybrid of LexisNexis, Bloomberg and sort of a general news sort of service. It's both narrow and kind of general in its own way. And obviously we have a very heavy focus on Thailand but in the new news service side, I anticipate we are going to go broader. I want to be looking at, at least mainland Southeast Asia, on a more regional level. Not so much Vietnam, but Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, even Myanmar to some extent and then how these issues and international issues, immigration issues, tax issues, travel issues, economic issues, how all of that is going to interact here in Southeast Asia and even in a broader context. I don't necessarily think that this is going to be Southeast Asia specific although again based on our geographical location and just the nature of my work and things, that's how we are going to do it. I have not decided on the pricing structure beginning January 1 of 2026 but what I am going to do is as an initial promotion we're going to charge 2,000 baht plus VAT, so whatever that is, Bt2,140 for this service for the rest of the forthcoming year. I do not anticipate the total cost of this service being more than 5,000 baht on a yearly basis thereafter so it's not going to be some teaser and then next year it's going to be exponentially higher. No that's not my intent. I want to get information out there but the deeper level stuff isn't really quite right for YouTube and frankly I think it should be in a more sort of closed-circuit context. I put a lot of information out there and I think it's good information. I think people enjoy, not enjoy it necessarily all the time, but if it's useful and I think it has value. And also, I've been trying to monetize, and I have been playing with monetization. I don't like any of it in any of the platforms particularly. And when I say that I mean I'm not just talking about YouTube which frankly tip of the hat to YouTube. If you're not monetized, they are pretty good to you and I have enjoyed working on YouTube in the way I have worked there but I don't particularly want to do streaming. I have dabbled a little bit, and I have put my toe in those waters. It's not really, I don't feel like it's the right format for me. My personality is not particularly sort of fit to that purpose. I'm also not the type that wants this to veer over into an entertainment kind of format. I look at myself as something akin to a news reader, a Ted Koppel or something like that. We're doing news here to a certain extent but it is serious and for those folks that want a good incisive look at how things work and how things are going, that is what we are going for.
The point I am also trying to make is initially I am going to do a long form piece, and I will do this promotionally to begin, well let me put it this way. Send us an email to [email protected] - we will put this on screen. Let us know if you want to be on the mailing list. We will send you the costs associated with getting this started and this is the promotional price as I said, 2,000 baht for the full year. I anticipate to make three long form videos every week and when I say long form, none of these are going to be less than 20 minutes. There was a recent - I am just going to give a preview of what I am going to be talking about there - and as I said, I have a video coming up. It is going to be talking about a recent article from the Bangkok Post, bangkokpost.com which we will put on screen: Thailand Ponders Reviving Outbound Travel Tax. On top of that, which we will talk about at 11:45, but in the long form video coming out this forthcoming week, if we get interest by email, again [email protected]. Send us an email and we will get you on our list; we will get you moving; we will tell you how to do everything associated with getting onto this, and we are going to start sending out these videos and folks can view them for themselves at their leisure. Basically, again it's going to be long form content but Barry Kenyon, an acquaintance of mine, I'd say a friend, down there at the Pattaya Mail, recently wrote an article regarding Tax matters and talk of changes to the tax system. As folks know from watching these videos, I like to quote articles, and I'm going to quote some of his articles, some of the article I'm going to talk about at 11:45 and I am going to go into even further depth in that video regarding my thoughts on the tax situation, where I see things moving forward. I'm not saying I'm the end all be all on any of this and moving forward, this isn't going to only be about tax. We are also going to talk Immigration, we're going to talk general news; how policy impacts the future of the law evolving and how that all works. All of that, it's going to be from an expat perspective. We will also talk about expat matters but it's a long form and again it is going to be a private news service and we are going to start with an email list and basically go from there. We are hoping to build it up sort of organically. One of the reasons it's under Integrity is your email and your information will be kept confidential; it is not legal service, although over time I will be sort of taking questions to talk specifically in that long form context but again it is not going to be specific questions to specific cases. That's not what we are going to be talking about, it's going to be more of the news format.
So if interested, please email us and we will get you on our list for this coming week for the first video, which I anticipate to be out probably Monday or Tuesday, the first week of June, so that should be the 2nd or 3rd of June. And we will get that email out to you and tell you how you can access this stuff and how you can get into our new news service network.
So, we look forward to this. I'm really hoping this takes off because I really do enjoy providing information, but I am looking for a way to do it in such a way that quite frankly this takes enough of my time. It actually takes kind of less than I think a lot of people think but it does take time to do this and I am happy to do it for a promotional aspect for the channel, we are going to continue doing that in the format people are used to and I'm still going to do op-eds and things like that especially on topical headlines and things of the day, but as far as long form really detailed commentary - especially on matters that pertain to expats and the international situation, the international scene and how that can impact folks in an Immigration, Tax, economic context, expat context, travel context, if you want to get that kind of information, I think I need to get paid a little bit to put together that kind of long-form content, and I'm really looking forward to providing folks with some value over that kind of medium.
