Thai Courts to Terminate Cannabis Cases?

Transcript of the above video:

As the title of this video suggests, we are discussing Thai Courts terminating Cannabis cases. What are we talking about here? This came to my attention via ASEAN NOW, that is aseannow.com, the article is titled: Court to Cancel Most Cannabis-related Cases after New Law. Let's note, most cannabis related cases. This does not say all, okay? Notwithstanding the fact that things are moving in a positive direction so to speak with respect to the possibility of decriminalization possibly legalization of many aspects of the Cannabis space, there are many aspects that are illegal and this law is relatively fluid right now. I would especially caution foreigners from doing risky things in this space because you may find yourself out on a legal limb without a lot of support.

But anyway quoting directly: BANGKOK (NNT): “The Office of Judiciary will cancel most ongoing cannabis related trials and detentions once new Cannabis Laws take effect on June 9th, 2022." So that is a red letter date to keep in mind if you are watching these videos on this topic. June 9th, 2022 looks like it is going to be kind of a watershed moment. Quoting further: "Judiciary Office Spokesperson Sorawit Limparangsri (sorry, transliterations always get me) recently discussed that Cannabis related offenses resulting in Court cases and detentions prior to June 9th will be dropped and any bond payments returned. Those imprisoned in related trials for failing to pay fines will also be released."

So interesting things happening here, like we are seeing a lot of major momentum in this area. It looks like decriminalization is very much becoming a real thing. Now that said this is not the end all be all on this. As I've said in another video that I made shortly before this one talking about a situation where a woman, in my opinion got kind of unduly put into jail overnight over one cannabis plant, this thing is still in a state of flux. And again, especially foreign nationals, be very, very careful out there in this space because it is not cut and dried right now. Things are moving in a certain direction but we haven't gotten to a point what I would sort of call a kind of an equilibrium, where we precisely know exactly where we stand.
