Could Casinos in Thailand Improve the Condo Market?

Transcript of the above video:

The title of this may sound kind of curious, seem a little strange, in fact it may seem like almost conflating two completely non-related things but I thought of making it after reading a recent article from the Pattaya Mail, pattayamail.com, the article is titled: Property market shifting away from condos, says developers. A lot of information in there, good information in there. I urge those who are watching this video to check that out because there is way more than what I am going to talk about but this one little issue I just thought was interesting from this small excerpt. Quoting directly: "A major problem with the condo market is a glut of studio apartments, those 30 sqm. apartments in which a cat cannot be swung around," well put. Quoting further: "according to some realtors, the possible advent of casinos might help to resolve even that issue as International or home based gamblers seek a pied-a-terre not too far from the luxurious betting emporium of their choice." Good point, I never really thought of that especially if there are going to be, as I have said in multiple other videos before, I understand the inclination to go with large Casino complexes, I truly get that. I hope Thailand adopts a bit of a mixed approach and allows some of the smaller actors in the economy to enjoy some of the benefits that could come from legalization of gaming. Most notably I mean again, rather than having a pool table in a given bar or a bar and grill, maybe you have a card table, that kind of thing. I am not talking about everybody is running their own casino type of deal but again poker tournaments can draw in a lot of people to a given venue. Even if you are just playing for prizes and stuff, poker basically is a skill game. I used to argue with an old friend of mine the difference between a game and a sport. I think poker probably does not fall into the category of a sport but it is definitely a skilled game, no different than say pool or snooker or something like this. It does require certain level of skill and yeah there is chance involved but there is chance involved in pool or snooker or anything like that.

So I would hope that we will see some sort of development come to pass and I think based on what we are seeing, there's sort of these special gambling services and things where it might be possible but yeah I never really thought of it from the standpoint of could it improve the property market specifically casinos, I think it probably could. Casinos, the advent of casinos in Thailand, could see more demand for condos here by people who may not be able to gamble in their home jurisdiction, they may live someplace for example here in Southeast Asia or even up in Northeast Asia and they come down to Thailand periodically maybe they just buy a vacation condo close by the casino so they can stay there while they come down here to enjoy themselves.
