Two Foreigners Attack Thai Police Officer?

Transcript of the above video:

As the title of this video suggests, we are discussing what appears to be a situation involving two foreigners who attacked or I should say maybe allegedly, although there seems to be a lot of evidence in support of the theory, but allegedly attacked a Thai police officer.

I thought of making this video after reading a recent article from the Bangkok Post, bangkokpost.com, the article is titled: Two New Zealanders attack Phuket traffic policeman. Quoting directly: "Two New Zealand men were arrested after injuring a local traffic policeman and trying to snatch his pistol on Saturday evening, police said. At 3:50 pm on Saturday, Pol Sen Sgt Maj Somsak Noo-iad, a traffic policeman from Chalong station, ordered a stop. The visitors did not stop but instead, (I think they meant sped) sped up to escape, then Pol Sen Sgt Major Somsak followed them. The foreigners finally stopped their motorcycles but shouted. The policeman used his mobile phone to record their reactions. The two men then blocked the recording and attacked the policeman, forcing him to the ground and trying to snatch his pistol. During the fight, the pistol went off once but the bullet did not hit anybody. Other policemen from Chalong station rushed to the scene and arrested both New Zealanders. They were later charged with robbery, obstruction of police duty, physical attack against a policeman. Both New Zealanders were detained at the station would be brought on Monday to the Phuket Provincial Court. (presumably today). Quoting further: "The traffic policeman was injured in the fingers and arms but was treated and discharged from hospital. He would be honoured and rewarded for his work. It was the first case of visitors attacking police." Yeah and boy I hope it is the last because quite honestly we really don't need that around here.

That said, I have to imagine there's going to be pretty stringent sentencing applied in this case because attacking a police officer. I urge those who are watching this video go check out that article. I tried digging a little deeper into this. I can't seem to fully understand what the dispute was about that it resulted in two foreigners attacking a police officer here in Thailand. This is just, pretty, for lack of a better term almost insane seems to be the right word. Very much for lack of any other term I definitely think that if this indeed is true, it is definitely a clear case of "Foreigners Behaving Badly" here in Thailand but I mean this is ridiculous by any standards. Yeah of course here in Thailand we sometimes get a little bit crazier stories, notably lady boys brawls breaking out in the middle of downtown. I get it. We are a little bit unique out here; it's a little bit unorthodox at times but this isn't good by any metric and hopefully this is not a sign of things to come. We will certainly keep people updated on this channel regarding this situation as it evolves.
