Thai Immigration Police's "Ongoing Campaign" Against Human Trafficking?

Transcript of the above video:

As the title of this video suggests, we are discussing human trafficking and Thai Immigration taking more steps here recently to combat human trafficking. We have talked about this a fair amount in other videos. I thought of making this video after reading a recent article from the Thai Examiner, that's thaiexaminer.com, the article is titled: Biggest Sex for Sale website shut down by police unit in early morning raid targeting foreigners. Quoting directly: "Deputy Immigration Bureau Chief Police Major General Panthana Nuchanart explained that the operation carried out by a special task force was part of the programme ordered by Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha targeting online criminality linked to foreigners in Thailand which was damaging the image of the Kingdom and which posed a nuisance to the public." Quoting further: "Officers also highlighted that the suppression of the website was part of Thailand's ongoing campaign to address the country's links with transnational crime and human trafficking."

So as we have discussed in other videos, Thailand takes human trafficking far more seriously now than in times past, maybe I should rephrase that. In times past I think they took it seriously but they didn't have the technological capabilities to really go after it in earnest the way that they do now. More and more I think as technology improves, we are going to see Thai Immigration Authorities taking an increasingly active approach in suppressing things that are considered at odds with Thai Law and policy here in the Kingdom especially as it pertains to foreign nationals.

Now as I have discussed in other videos on this channel, it has been my belief that over the past roughly 5 to 7 years we have seen a major transition in terms of the paradigm shift at Thai Immigration from what was in the past kind of an administrative mindset associated with Thai Immigration where you need to fill out some forms, we put some stamps in your passport to document that you are here in the country legally to more of a law enforcement standpoint more and more. We are seeing more and more of a law enforcement attitude in the sense that Thai Immigration Police are being more proactive for example in cases like this, but they are also being more proactive in going after people that are overstaying in Thailand; we are seeing them be more proactive with respect to people being in the incorrect Visa category or using visas in a fraudulent manner. And the thing to take away from this video more than anything else is, I think that this law enforcement attitude is going to persist in the mind of Thai Immigration and I think we are going to see more sort of scenarios similar to this playing out as time goes on.
