"Enhanced Consular Cooperation" Between Foreign Representatives And Thai Law Enforcement?

Transcript of the above video:

As the title of this video suggests, we are discussing Consular cooperation. I thought of making this video after reading a recent article in the Phuket News, that is thephuketnews.com, the article is titled: Step by Step: Reimagining Paradise through the 'Phuket Model' and a reformed Senate. I should preface this video by saying, the Thai Law enforcement community has gone through a paradigm shift in the past year or so and especially in light of a lot of recent incidences of what I can only describe as 'Foreigners behaving badly', I think that that paradigm shift is becoming even more acute and there are proactive measures underway to enforce changes in policy regarding how law enforcement will be practiced pertaining to foreigners. We've discussed in other videos, I even did an ALERT video, I cannot overstate that, how big a deal this paradigm is shifting. That said I thought of making this video again after reading the Phuket News, the phuketnews.com, the article is titled: Step by Step: Reimagining Paradise through the 'Phuket Model' and a reformed Senate.  Quoting directly: "Enhanced Consular cooperation: Streamlined communication between Thai Authorities and the Consulates of visitor-originating countries is critical. This facilitates swift legal proceedings, deters repeat offenses, and ensures proper accountability for criminal behaviour."

Again this is a major shift in terms of how law enforcement operates. They are now quickly and rather efficiently communicating with foreign Embassies, foreign Consulates here in Thailand regarding criminals that originated from that country who are committing criminal activity here in Thailand. That can create a much more streamlined process for things like deportation; that's just one thing it can streamline, as well as non-issuance or non-reissuance of visas, things of this nature to come back to Thailand or blacklisting of people who have committed crimes here. Again, this sea change is not only within law enforcement, it is broader. They are taking measures now to really on an institutional level be able to quickly communicate when they arrest someone so that they can basically, I think process them through the system, and then process them into deportation and just get them out of here as quick as they can and they need some level of cooperation from foreign Consulates here to go ahead and affect that change and I think it is being affected as we speak.
