Driving In Thailand: Traffic "Fines Have Gotten Steep"?

As the title of this video suggests, we are discussing driving in Thailand specifically the fines and penalties associated with traffic citations here in Thailand. I thought of making this video after reading a recent article from the Pattaya Mail, that is pattayamail.com, the article is titled: My take on Pattaya of September 2023: Walking Street so quiet. I urge those who are watching this video, go check out that article in detail, a lot of good information in there. Under the subheading: Wow, the fines have gotten steep, quoting directly: Pattaya's finest were out in force with road checks starting as early as 7:00 a.m. in some areas. It's all to do with the hefty price hike which started on Monday, September 5. Driving a motorbike without a helmet or driving a car without a seatbelt in place have leapt from 500 Baht to 2,000 baht. Speeding, running a red light of failing to stop for pedestrians at a crosswalk have all jumped from 1,000 Baht to 4,000 Baht. And that's just a few random examples."

Yeah, again I urge those watching this video, go check out that article in detail but yeah it looks like the fines associate again with traffic citations are going up and it looks like that Thai law enforcement is looking to enforce in earnest. Never forget, at the end of the day traffic citations oftentimes do make for a revenue stream for the state, for the Government and sometimes they are pretty eager to see that revenue stream come in. So where we have seen these hikes associated with fines and penalties be implemented, now we are actually seeing them being enforced apparently, particularly down in Pattaya. I haven't actually seen up here in Bangkok a lot of road blocks although I was down in Pattaya over the weekend and I did see a couple of different checkpoints being put up and maintained while I was down there. So interesting that this comes right on the heels of changes to the fines associated with traffic citation here in the Kingdom of Thailand.
