"Big Joke" Meets US Ambassador-at-Large on Human Trafficking

Transcript of the above video:

As the title of this video suggests, we are discussing Big Joke yet again. He kind of seems to be a frequent topic these days on this channel but it's because it's relevant to what we usually discuss on this channel.

I recently saw, this was on a Thai language news site, khaosod.co.th and we will throw up the article. I am presuming folks, most of the folks that are watching my channel don't speak, read Thai so we are going to kind of, we didn't do a full translation this thing. I am just going to kind of go over the broad points but yeah it looks like Deputy National Police Chief General Surachate "Big Joke" Hakparn and it looks like the Director-general of the Department of American and South Pacific Affairs and as well as Cindy Dyer, US Ambassador-at-Large to Monitor and Combat Trafficking in Persons, there was a meeting where they were discussing the issues surrounding trafficking in persons. Thai Law enforcement has taken trafficking in persons really seriously roughly the last 5 years and I believe it's called the TIP report, the Trafficking in Persons report, it's something I think the US does every year. Thailand has been consistently rising on this list because Thai Authorities take it seriously and they are implementing law enforcement measures related to trafficking in persons. Obviously this has an Immigration component. As we have discussed in many other videos issues involving work authorization and moving migrant workers around which can have implications for foreign workers from countries that don't directly border Thailand. All of this kind of comes together in a kind of a confluence if you will, sort of witch's brew of policy and interests surrounding Immigration Law here in Thailand. More to the point this is kind of one of those key areas where the rubber hits the road on my analysis at least with what I see in terms of a major paradigm shift from Immigration being something primarily viewed as an Administrative matter to now being viewed as a law enforcement matter. Again as evidenced by the fact that it is the Deputy National Police Chief meeting with the Ambassador-at-Large to Monitor and Combat Trafficking in Persons. Clearly this is viewed as an important issue.

So again, the thing I would take away from this video is that look it may not have any direct bearing, this news may not have any direct bearing on somebody's Immigration extension or something for example but it's very, very relevant to the issue of Immigration Policy in general as I said, as we are seeing this evolution away from Immigration being an administrative matter over to it being a law enforcement matter.
