The topic of surrogacy, that is the practice of utilizing a surrogate in order to carry one's child and thereby give birth to one's child via a surrogate here in Thailand has not been something we have talked about lately. In fact going back quite a ways now it is some 10 years ago I believe, there was a major case called the "Baby Gaming" case which resulted in major overhaul to Thailand's surrogacy laws. In fact up to that point, there effectively were no laws regarding surrogacy and the lack thereof creating kind of a cottage industry in the surrogacy business. Now we saw that all kind of fall by the wayside because tough measures were taken in the aftermath of that case, and surrogacy is heavily curtailed here in Thailand to the point where it generally only involves Thais only and it only involves Thais who are utilizing another Thai or a family member, I think it's family members primarily, that can act as a surrogate. So there are a lot of restrictions now in Thailand. 

That said, it appears "Big Joke" has gotten into or has been investigating this. I thought of making this video after reading a recent article from the Bangkok Post, bangkokpost.com, the article is titled: Chinese men believed seeking Thai wives to have surrogate sons. Quoting further: "Woman dumped after Chinese fiancé learned she was carrying a girl." Quoting directly: "Police are investigating a possible new illegal surrogacy movement involving Chinese men marrying Thai women, after a woman complained she was abandoned when her fiancé learned the child she was carrying by him was a girl, not the son he wanted." Deputy National Police Chief Pol Gen Surachate Hakparn, (that is “Big Joke”) said on Monday he had ordered checks on Chinese visitors who might be involved in a "new form of illegal surrogacy" outlawed by the surrogacy law." And as usual, I urge those who are watching this video to go check out that article in detail. 

Again, as we have discussed in other videos, "Big Joke", General Surachate, I've been watching him for years going back into Immigration and one thing I can say about him, he is relentless insofar as enforcing Thai Law and this looks like another one of these situations. We have discussed how he has been heavily scrutinizing sex crimes here in Thailand and this, although I wouldn't say it's necessarily a sex crime per se, is kind of adjacent to that, this whole surrogacy issue, and it also can touch upon human trafficking issues which apparently is a major priority both of the Thai Government and seemingly is the focus of many of "Big Joke's" current law enforcement endeavours so I am not really surprised by this. This article is a little bit older, I just came upon it recently. It will be interesting to see how this plays out and we will certainly keep you updated on this channel as that situation evolves.
