"Same-Sex Marriage" by "January Next Year" in Thailand?
Transcript of the above video:
As the title of this video suggests, it looks like good news for the LGBT community here in Thailand as it seems we are likely to see same-sex marriage possible by this first quarter of 2025.
I thought of making this video after reading a recent article from CNN, that is, edition.cnn.com, the article is titled: Thailand's King signs landmark Same-Sex Marriage Bill into law. Quoting directly: "Thailand's landmark Marriage Equality Bill was officially written into law Tuesday allowing same-sex couples to legally wed " Quoting further: "The law was published in The Royal Gazette after endorsement by King Maha Vajiralongkorn, and will come into effect in 120 days. This means LGBTQ+ couples will be able to register their marriage in Thailand next year, making Thailand the third place in Asia, after Taiwan and Nepal.." - and in the case of Taiwan and Nepal I thought that occurred by like Judicial Fiat, especially in the case of Taiwan. Didn't that occur because their Supreme Court said so. It wasn't because it was like promulgated into actual statutory law. That said, I could be wrong on that. Quoting further: "..to allow same-sex marriage. Quote: "The Bill which grants full legal, financial and medical rights for marriage partners of any gender, sailed through both the House of Representatives and the Senate in April and June respectively."
Yeah, so this has been something, again CNN is a little bit maybe unaware of the history of this. This has been pushed for roughly about the last 5 or 6 years and it was kind of one of those things that especially in the NLA, in the National Legislative Assembly, back I don't know what that is now, 6, 7 years ago, they didn't go ahead and promulgate it although it came real close; it was sort of happening in the last sort of sessions that they had before they closed it. We had the election, the new Parliament opened, but even in that Parliament they were talking about it, it finally didn't go through. Now finally yes, we've seen it promulgated through the Royal Gazette; His Majesty has endorsed it, so it looks like we're going to see this change in the first quarter in the coming year 2025 here in the Kingdom of Thailand.
