Thailand to Restructure The Tax System?

Transcript of the above video:

As the title of this video suggests, we are discussing the possibility of Thailand restructuring her tax system. A recent article from the Bangkok Post, that is bangkokpost.com, the article is titled: Tax Restructure Puts Emphasis on Four Goals. Quoting directly: "The draft plan of the tax restructure for 2022-2026 will focus on four goals according to a senior official at the Fiscal Policy Office. (FPO). Quoting further: "The first goal is to enhance the country's competitiveness and ensure sustainable economic growth.” Quoting further: "The Thai Tax System must also promote the digital economy." Quoting further: "The third goal is to promote a green economy and finally the restructuring also aims to ensure fair treatment and transparency." I would urge those who are interested in this again check out that article, there is more in there. I am just going to pull these excerpts and talk about these briefly. Again bangkokpost.com, Tax Restructure Puts Emphasis on Four Goals.

So I find this interesting and it will be interesting to see how exactly this plays out especially in the aftermath of COVID-19. And what we are going to be dealing with frankly with respect to the fact that I mean the economy is really going to be having some issues; I suspect tax revenue are going to be far lower.

One question I would like to know is "sustainable economic growth" I would love to know exactly what that means from the Government's perspective because I am sure they think sustainability is they have funding to maintain their operations. This isn't an anti-tax tirade or anything, it is simply what the government thinks is sustainable versus what a small business might think is sustainable perhaps are two different things. So, moving forward we will certainly be making further videos as this situation evolves.
