New Regulations for Tattoo Shops in Thailand

Transcript of the above video:

As the title of this video suggests, we are discussing tattoo parlors and tattoo artists here in the Kingdom and it recently came to my attention that there had been some newly promulgated regulations with respect tattoo parlors here in the Kingdom.

In a recent article from the Nation, that is nationthailand.com, the article is titled: Government Tightens Rules for Tattooists. Quoting directly: "The Ministry of Public Health announced the regulations for Skin Tattooing & Body Piercing 2019, signed by Deputy Public Health Minister Sathit Pitudecha. Quoting further: "According to the regulations, persons engaging in tattooing and piercing services must possess the following qualifications:

  • be of sound health and not have any respiratory or repulsive skin diseases

  • have a doctor's certificate showing the practitioner had passed an annual physical checkup and was free of monitored communication diseases such as Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C and Tuberculosis

  • have sound knowledge of anti-infection waste management for skin tattooing & body piercing procedures.”

So clearly Thailand is bringing forth regulations to increase the level of hygiene with respect to tattoo parlors and tattoo artists.  I think that probably this is in response to the fact that we have seen a larger number of such institutions throughout the country, but it is noticeable here in Bangkok. There are rather large shops that are now operating here in the city where once it was kind of rather smaller places now it seems to be being done on a much grander scale for lack of better term.

So I think that this is somewhat in response to that and also it was probably time for review of the overall regulatory structure associated with such services. If there is anything further to report on this we will certainly update folks on this channel so stay tuned.
