Is a Digital Thai Work Permit Better Than a Paper One?

Transcript of the above video:

As the title of this video suggests, we are discussing "Is a digital Thai Work Permit better than a Paper one?" What are we talking about? A couple of years ago the BOI in their initiative associated with the Smart Visa but also we have seen this just with BOI generally, they are allowing certain folks to go ahead and have what is called a Digital Work Permit in the BOI system which means it is just paperless there is not a Paper Work Permit.

Work Permits come in a little blue book generally speaking. I had a Work Permit for over a decade; it is a little blue book, I should have frankly brought one on for this video but yeah it is a paper Work Permit. We will probably show one just throw it up on the screen what one looks like, but is it better to have a paper one or a digital one? I would say in a legal sense they are no different than each other but in a practical sense I think there are some substantial differences between a Digital Work Permit and a Paper Work Permit. Most notably, a Paper Work Permit is a physical document you can present places when they want to see it. For whatever reason bureaucracies in Thailand not just Government, Banking, certain Companies, renting sometimes leasing, these types of things, credit agencies, they want to see the paper document and they are not really used to the fact that there no longer is a paper document for certain folks. Now this can be overcome but in a sense there is some benefit to having the paper one even though long term I suspect a lot of things will just be fully digitized. In this particular moment there is some benefit from a practical standpoint to having a paper Work Permit.
