Insurance Now Required for Thai Retirement Visas

Transcript of the above video:

As the title of this video suggests, we are discussing Retirement Visas again and a topic that we have been speculating on on this channel lo these past few months. Yes indeed insurance is now required for those who are going to be in the Kingdom of Thailand in retiree status

We kind of waited a minute, if you will, with respect to making this video because when the first news broke on this, I saw it probably contemporaneously with most of our viewers here, I took a minute to go ahead and say “let's step back a second and see if this gets corroborated and yes indeed it did come to pass that it looks like that this is what is happening.” Now that is not to say anything about the media platform that broke this story the Nation,  nationmultimedia.com which was very insightful but we didn't go ahead and do a video on this until I got some more information to go ahead and share with the viewers on his channel.

So let's quote directly from the Nation, nationmultimedia.com. The title of the article is:  Insurance Mandatory for Long-stay Foreigners.  Quoting directly, "Health Insurance has been made mandatory for foreigners aged 50 years and above seeking long-term stay in Thailand.  The insurance policy must offer up to 40,000 Baht coverage for outpatient treatment and up to 400,000 Baht for inpatient treatment." Quoting further, "The Cabinet has already approved the new rule, Health Service Support Department Director-general Nattawuth Prasert- siripong revealed yesterday."  So I think that pretty well sums it up just as a general issue.

Now there are some details on this which I am going to go be going into in subsequent videos that are going to be published on this channel. There are some details, some for lack of better term, nuances to this that remains to be seen. Another issue with respect to this is when exactly is going to be fully implemented remains to be seen. We don't know at the time of this video exactly when this is going to come down but we will go ahead and do a video with respect to that topic if and when the time comes that there is further information about how exactly this is going to be implemented in a regulatory sense.
